i need a friend who is rich, has a car and knows a lot of hot girls!

yes i need ironman to be my new friend. hahah. it's a joke from big bang theory. mygoodness. the show and i have so much in common that i am absolutely loving it. science/tech geekness plus marvel/DC comic humor. ohmytian. it doesn't get any better than this!

almo came to melbourne for holiday! i caught ironman 2 with him. it was aw-e-some. seriously. i am totally riding the marvel movie wave. everyone knows that i am geek. and which geek isnt into comic books? and watching the comic superheroes coming to life onto the big screen is a ohsuperdamultraholycrap dream come true.

it kind of sets me thinking though. why do comic book writers write about superheroes. i think the origin traces a long way back. they are kind of like our modern incarnation of our old folk tales and fables of celestial beings or extremely talented people. something like that dude that shot down 9 suns. something like the monkey king. i am pretty sure every culture has their own fables. but maybe comic book superheroes are like a gazillion times cooler.

what's even more weird is why people bother reading such stuff. especially when we are know that all these is purely fiction and not true. maybe because it serves as an escape from reality. maybe because theses stories give people what they cant get in real life. some of the most famous superheros come from humble beings. they were that loser geek back in high school (somebody say sppppppiderman), or maybe some kid from a broken home. i guess it gives people some form of encouragement and inspiration. somebody to look up to. someone they want to be.

but how about superman? alien from outer space who sucks power from the sun like a solar battery. maybe it reflects on the desire for perfection. to be a perfect being. on the other hand, superman is nowhere near perfect. (kryptonite anyone?)

at the end of the day, i think it is largely because it provides people a platform to dream. practically all the superheros has an alter ego with an extremely (or near there) boring life. clark kent. peter parker. steve rogers. etc etc. pretty much like anyone of us. but in their costumes, they kick some serious butt. excitement. sense of fulfillment. dreams. variation (from their mundane life). i mean. can you imagine how exciting batman's life would be? how much variety he has? one day joker is trying to bomb the whole of gotham. the next day penguin is trying to make a fool out of himself shooting his umbrella. sure beats reading thick textbooks or working in an office eh?

of course. again. i am reading too much into things. and most importantly. this post is kind of like stabbing myself behind my back. oh well. no harm once in a while to relax and lose yourself in a comic right? it's sort of like reading a storybook. ( "harry, hold on!" "bella, you are exactly my brand of heroine.") oh come on. comic book aint just for kids! the storylines are deeper than you think. it's not all mindless violence. some stories are so complex i dont even think they are for kids! believe it or not. things discussed in comics can include the various characters of human beings, the ugly side of society, politics, war, fashion trends, pop culture etc etc. in fact most of the time comic books reflect the flaws in human beings and society fairly accurately. which i take comfort. because at least some people out there knows that something is wrong with our world.

okay. i pretty much told you more than you want to know/interested. well. i wanted to write more about ironman but my mind just drifted away. the marvel universe and DC universe is so vast i am kind of amazed how much knowledge i have. they have like hundreds of different characters with complicated intertwining storylines. freak. now i know why i did badly in school. oh by the way, characters like spiderman, ironman, xmen, hulk come from marvel. superman, batman, flash, wonderwoman and co. come from DC.

to end, let me show you a picture to show how much the quality of artwork in comics have improved! i present to you.. the dark knight!
